Necro-Aftermath

We are home, after the war with ourselves. I had a few random aftermath questions, so I am putting them here.

  • What's the status of the portal, and what would/could Sterling tell us about it? Can they close it? Will it stay closed? Do they seem able to control it? Would they give us any info about its relationship to the space and fantasy portals we encountered earlier this year?

  • How are the kids, other than being super-traumatized (injuries, etc.)?

  • Has there been any media coverage of the incident at Xavier's? Rumors about it in more underground internet sources, or reaction from the old X-Men crew that someone like Jeremy might be aware of (insofar as he'd share them with us)?

  • Did Sterling pay us for this (hey, this was a job)?

I think that's it but I might've left out something important.

The portal is still open for another ... day or so before it finally closes. It's been subject to study the entire time it was open. Nobody on this side has claimed any responsibility for closing it.

How are the kids, other than being super-traumatized (injuries, etc.)?

They were well-cared for. Your opposite numbers were desperate to keep them safe and/or healthy. The plan was to keep them to be the next generation, the only mutants untouched by necrogenesis and vaccinated against it. A couple of the more rambunctious one might have sported some skinned knees etc. that occurred while trying to book it, but generally speaking: they're in good shape.

Traumatized, sure, though.

Has there been any media coverage of the incident at Xavier's? Rumors about it in more underground internet sources, or reaction from the old X-Men crew that someone like Jeremy might be aware of (insofar as he'd share them with us)?

The old X-Men crew are all mad as hell, and/or depressed -- at least the ones that Jeremy is in contact with. It's been impossible to completely cover up what happened at Xavier's, but for now, it appears to be sidelined as an assault that happened because of anti-mutant tensions, and that was successfully repulsed.

Did Sterling pay us for this (hey, this was a job)?

Jeremy is submitting an invoice. Look for an IC mail about this soon.

Soldiers:

None of the soldiers are without signs of the battering they've taken. In close quarters, the gashes on one of them -- across arms, legs, and abdomen -- look distinctly /odd/, like the blood and torn flesh show distinct, glistening signs of -- searing -- at the edges of the wounds, gaping holes showing through skin. The broken arm is really bad, slapdash first aid doing all it can but with a piercing sliver of shattered bone sticking out from the skin, there's only so much you can do. The two broken noses also show serious signs of bruising, and one of them is definitely moving with a hitched limp that slows him down. Whoever attacked these men (and woman), they apparently weren't that concerned about injuries damaging /sale value/.

  • What happened to you after going through the portal? You were clearly attacked at some point and imprisoned.
  • What can you tell us about your attackers?
  • Did you ever see the children that went missing from Xavier's? Do they seem like they are being treated alright?
  • Overhear what they may have wanted those children for?
  • Do you have any idea where they might have been taken or where they may be now?
  • Learn anything about what happened to this world?

What happened to you after going through the portal? You were clearly attacked at some point and imprisoned.

After their initial scouting through the immediate surroundings of the Xavier's memorial, the team followed muddy tire tracks and tracked them as best they could until they were ambushed out of nowhere.

What can you tell us about your attackers?

They were mutants. Some of them looked a lot like you guys. One of them looked a hell of a lot like your boss. They didn't take kindly to being surveilled and pursued from the portal and they took action to stop it with extreme prejudice. The mutants used their mutations to beat, torture, and generally extract information from them before dumping them off in the slave pens. Their field commander was killed in pretty dramatic fashion. The information they were looking for was primarily who Sterling's group was, how many pursued, how they discovered them, how well armed they are, and so on.

Did you ever see the children that went missing from Xavier's? Do they seem like they are being treated alright?

They saw the kids being transported. They seemed to be okay.

Overhear what they may have wanted those children for?

Not really. They missed that in between all the getting tortured.

Do you have any idea where they might have been taken or where they may be now?

They were headed back to their "underground base". Apparently, someone called "Essex" had a building setup they have access to off one of the currently disused subway tunnels.

Learn anything about what happened to this world?

It got fucked?

We also grabbed a prisoner (Blasto) that we can question. If anyone else has questions I forget, reply and add them, but these are the ones that come to mind after what we glean from Sterlin's guys (and yes I am stealing and re-purposing some of Micaela's):

  • Who is Essex?
  • What additional information can we get on the location/layout/mutants defending the underground base of his Sterling's people mentioned?
  • Why were the Xavier's kids kidnapped and what is this Essex planning to do with them?
  • What happened to this world?

Who?

She's not done a lot of work with them before -- apparently they were ~above~ the slave trade or some shit like that -- but she can get you descriptions for people who sound like the AU versions of Irene, Vega, Kade and Jeremy. Strangely she has only very blurry memories of anyone else even though she knows that there were probably more people involved.

You can have enough information to find the base by general location (i.e., which train tunnel etc.), but she has no idea from layout.

Why were the Xavier's kids kidnapped and what is this Essex planning to do with them?

What kids?

What happened to this world?

Magneto won. Then we all lost. This is what's left. Power goes to who takes it, and you might as well live for today, because there's no legacy left for anyone.

The Building with the Gargoyles

GM REPLY

On Monday, a rest and then some portal-hopping via Ciel leads you into the heart of Manhattan. The city is clearly suffering from a lack of constant upkeep. Signs of flooding are everywhere, most of the buildings have been thoroughly looted, and several landmark buildings from your version of New York are missing, having simply never been built.

There are sections, though, that are well-kept and even well-secured. A fly-by reveals several small areas that look like claimed territory, complete with growing gardens.

The northern section of the Financial District is alight with electricity and activity. Buildings there have been turned into places of pleasure, brothels and casinos and bars, pit fights of every kind, drug dens and markets.

At its center is City Hall and the nearby Woolworth building. The small park in front of City Hall has been converted to an auctioneer's block and a handful of holding pens crowded with slaves and surrounded by watchtowers.

It looks like this: https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1o_TTf7lvgsmgJwxu__OuZQWSuNSp7aEjgK3aS6R188U/edit?usp=sharing

I may have missed something on chan when I missed Friday's scene but what supplies do we actually have? Body armor, stunners, and general camping/survival type kits?

You can have whatever you want to have as long as it is not particularly unusual. IE, guns are okay, rocket launchers are not.

Recon:

  • How many guards are manning each tower? What are the entrances (windows and doors) to the towers? How are they visibly armed?
  • How many guards are at the pens?
  • How many guards are at the auction block? (Is there an active auction?)
  • How many people are in each pen approximately? What is their state?

  • How many guards are manning each tower? What are the entrances (windows and doors) to the towers? How are they visibly armed?

Two guards per tower. They are wooden towers that are open at the top, with a ladder up, sort of like this: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/4e/ba/af/4ebaaf314bdd70429f37d5d43e456592.jpg - more about visibility than protection.

  • How many guards are at the pens?

Shifting numbers, but it looks like each pen has at least two guards on it, as well as more that move through the crowds checking out the wares.

  • How many guards are at the auction block? (Is there an active auction?)

Currently none. There is no auction during recon, but you hear there's one set for tonight.

  • How many people are in each pen approximately? What is their state?

The pens are different sizes, but people are packed tight. Not quite mosh-pit tight, but tight. We're talking 50-75 people per pen. Their state is not good. A lot of minor injuries from being jostled and rough transportation. Some outright bruises and bloodied noses and black eyes. Occasionally something worse. Few look very well fed, and most look as if they haven't bathed in weeks. Or months.

Tat (talk)01:09, 22 November 2016

We try to send out flyers/sneakers in for some recon. (Probably mostly Ciel, Richard, and William.) We want to get a closer look at the slave pens, guard towers, and market.

  • Can we get a better view of the slave pens? Maybe general estimation of numbers? Anyone look familiar?
  • What's the guard situation look like?
  • Does it look like there are active auctions going on at the moment?*
  • What's the activity around the slave pens? Are people freely moving around in that area, or are non-slaves kept away?
  • Since Will can get closest, can he get any more specific info about what's going on from actual chatter?

Yes, see above, and yes - one of the pens holds a handful of men (and one woman) who look oddly well fed and /very/ well worked over. One of them is cradling an arm that looks like it might be broken. Two more have broken noses, and several have deep gashes on arms and legs and abdomen. They're not clad in anything so obvious as body armor or uniforms, but closer inspection suggests that under all that dirt and blood, they're Sterling's missing military team.

  • What's the guard situation look like?

See above.

  • Does it look like there are active auctions going on at the moment?*

See above

  • What's the activity around the slave pens? Are people freely moving around in that area, or are non-slaves kept away?

Moving freely, checking out the wares. In addition to the guards at the pens, each pen has a handler who'll bring a slave over for up close and personal inspection on request, if you're registered as a buyer.

  • Since Will can get closest, can he get any more specific info about what's going on from actual chatter?

Chatter suggests an auction tonight, a lot of bickering over prices. He can probably pick up that everyone in the slave pens is human - no mutants.

After the attack on the lab last night:

  • One human escaped from the hotel (Mila). Some group might want to track her down (you can do this offcam if anyone wants to play with it).
  • The hotel group got a 12 year old girl named Crista. The lab group got Dr. Yu. Questioning commences, and they share (not willingly) that this is the only facility of its kind. Everyone was present. With this attack, production of the necrogenesis virus has been shut down - at least for now. Then you kill the prisoners.
  • Lots of injuries! Feel free to edit yours in:
    • Lucita died after a shot to the neck.

Next steps:

  • Those who are sticking with the group (it's up to you) are headed to Westchester, New York. Dr. Essex has shared that he has a method of obtaining uninfected mutants. History buffs might remember Westchester as the former location of Xavier's School.
  • The road trip will take all of Monday and most of Tuesday. Feel free to play roadtripping if it interests you.
Tat (talk)20:24, 14 November 2016

BLAZE (Alt Kade) would totally want to track down Mila. With the intention of finishing burning her face off. He'd take along anyone interested in a murder side-trip, if folks wanna say they did this off-cam.

THE CAMP AND ESSEX

We have been able to obtain sufficient samples of the raw necrogenesis virus for Dr. Nathaniel Essex to develop a vaccine that can be used to prevent future incursions of the virus. Now we are preparing for an assault on a secret location: the sole manufacturing and research facility responsible for the necrogenesis virus. It is our goal to kill all but one of any of the people who know anything about creating the virus, and to destroy any stockpiles of the virus, and hopefully, to destroy the entire facility and prevent them from ever manufacturing any more necrogenesis ever again.

Our target is the abandoned Rainbow Hotel and Casino. From the outside, it looks abandoned. Intel tells us that it's not, though, and closer inspection reveals that it not only has power, but it's drawing an awful lot of it. At night, the hotel windows are blacked out, but during the day, occasional movement can be seen inside the rooms.

Lucita's intel indicates that the former hotel is serving as living quarters for the cell here, while the casino floor - windowless and with few entrances and exits - is home to a research lab.

She also indicates that the cell that held her relied heavily on high-tech robotic sentries for security. They apparently stole the plans from a technopath at some point and have been churning them out to make up for their limited manpower.

We don't know much more. We don't /need/ to know much more - the idea here is to torch the place to the ground, with everyone who knows anything with it. Except for the guy we're going to force to spill any intel he has. We do want one of those, preferably.
