So Lexie and Maxim seem to have fallen hard. How typical is this for Lexie? If it's not, what's different about this time?

Lexie's kind of a wild child, but at the same time, she's built up this company that does pretty okay for itself. How do these two sides of her mesh, or conflict?

If Lexie could change one thing about her roomie, what would it be?

I think -- yes and no? Hah hah that's contradictory. I think that Lexie throws herself into things, and she's been burned by it before. Which isn't to say that she's stopped, because she's Lexie and she's still stubborn and brash and fuck broken hearts the best way to get over someone is to get under someone else. (Her dad would be horrified.) I've name-dropped shitty exes in scenes -- with you, actually! -- kind of at random to try and indicate that Lexie is someone who has ended up in shitty relationships because of how hard and fast and hot she tends to do things.

So yeah, I think it's typical in one way. But what's different is this: Maxim.

Lexie tends to go in fast and hard with other people who also do fast and hard. Maxim, while having fallen very hard, isn't really the same. There's something a lot more steady and deliberate about him in general. And there's a devotion that she finds entirely disarming and also totally terrifying. In some ways, Lexie is not really sure what to do with Maxim. Part of her thinks she's gotten in over her head, because oh my god he said he loves her and she doesn't know what to do with that. Because Lexie rushes into things, but I don't know if she loves so immediately. She lusts fast and hard, and she certainly likes fiercely and loyally (cough cough) and protectively. I think she's probably poly at heart and that's going to be a thing, and I think part of her maybe knows that. But she already dove in headfirst, which maybe wasn't the wisest, and it's hard to backpedal. It's hard to look at someone who is saying that you're their world and say 'but what if my world had more than one person.'

We'll see.

What are all the kinds of vehicles that Lexie can drive having grown up with a mechanic dad? What's her favorite? (Besides her baby).

Lexie is this mix of very brash and incredibly focused and thoughtful. Where does that come from? It's a very unique kind of personality and I wonder which side is more sincerely her. Or is it both?

If Lexie could get away with ONE CRIME what would it be?

ALL THE KINDS. Like, I'm sure she's driven a ton of different stuff. As far as her favorite BESIDES HER BABIES, I think probably there's a super awesome bike that's gone through the shop that she probably loved a lot. She likes motorcycles a lot. But really, anything with an engine that roars. I don't know enough about cars. I do think she likes more of the vintage muscle cars rather than sleeker sports cars (like Lamborghinis).

I have actually considered many times that Lexie might have medicated ADHD; maybe I should really sit down and look into it and commit to it. She has this sort of explosive energy sometimes that I think has probably caused issue at various points in her life. She has a real drive and creativity and ability to make connections that is of real professional benefit to her, but it also means she sometimes has to struggle to focus.

I don't think either side of the "real" her. The focus and thoughtfulness isn't a part of a mask, although sometimes they may require her to exert a little self-control and kind of direct herself rather consciously where she needs to go. But it's not fake.

If Lexie could get away with ONE CRIME what would it be?

Oh man, I don't know. Criminal mischief because it has the best name? (Sao told me that's vandalism-type things.) Stealing something big from rich assholes?

  • WHAT DOES LEXIE THINK OF KADE 4 REAL?
  • Does she ever regret not having gotten involved in (or just being born a bit too late for) something like the X-Men, or even X-Force?

- Kade

WHAT DOES LEXIE THINK OF KADE 4 REAL?

HE'S OKAY SHE GUESSES. Lexie would probably be more open and easy with Kade if he weren't dating Ciel, which probably sounds strange. But she's kind of wary of the whole idea of their relationship: getting with a guy you had a crush on as a teenager doesn't sound like a great idea for a friend, and it started out kind of shaky, and then certain things seemed to move kind of fast, etc. etc. She doesn't dislike Kade, but she's wary. She's super protective of Ciel and she's seen her at a really awful low point in her life, and she's also seen her kind of build herself back up here in New York. She doesn't want someone knocking that down even if they're well-meaning about it.

From a non-Ciel perspective, she thinks Kade is pretty fun. She thinks he's kind of a dork in that way where he's old and still acts a bit young and she's like, lol old people. YOU HAVE A DAUGHTER KADE. NO SHE DOESN'T WANT TO SEE PICTURES OH MY GOD YOU'RE SO OOOOOOOOOOOOOLD. AT LEAST JEREMY ADMITS HE'S AN OLD DORK.

Does she ever regret not having gotten involved in (or just being born a bit too late for) something like the X-Men, or even X-Force?

Mm. Sometimes. She mostly didn't want to join X-Force growing up because she didn't like the idea of working in the government hierarchy because she's a wild child like that. But on the other hand -- she did still want to be a hero, you know? She loves the idea of the most exciting parts of it, the running around the world and being awesome and saving the world and all of that. She was always ridiculously proud of her brother and sister-in-law and even her dad and everyone she knew in X-Force for doing what they did. I think she would have chosen that over the X-Men, if someone gave her the choice, just because of the family connection. But mostly she was born too late, and didn't even really end up with the option.

What is Lexie's spirituality (if any) like? We've touched on this vaguely in recent convo re: her Jew godfather but I'm curious about not so much the nitty gritty as the broad strokes.

What does she think of working for XFS?

She doesn't think about it. Her dad's mostly Catholic and her mom's (nominally?) Orthodox and Lexie spends a lot of time not caring about it. She's got kind of a fierce personal religion of BE A HERO and HELP PEOPLE and also PARTY HARD AND BE AWESOME. I mean, I don't think that either of her parents are fiercely religious, and I don't know that Lexie is an atheist so much as she doesn't think it's important in a way. Life is about the here and now, and she owes people her action here on earth.

If there is a God? Well, that'd be okay, but she better not hate women or gay people or trans people or anyone else because fuck that shit.

What does she think of working for XFS?

She likes it! I mean, there's a bit of overlap here, because sometimes XFS might handle the type of work that she and Ciel do on their own, so she doesn't want to undercut her own business entirely. But she totally believes in this mission Jeremy's on of letting mutants be employed as mutants and actually use their mutations to make money. It'd be exploitative if it was a bunch of norms doing it or whatever, but this is a bunch of mutants making their own business in the heart of the ghetto that the rest of the world has put them in. It's not just a job for Lexie; it's a rebellion.

  • Lexie went to great lengths to help Rohan, especially with his mutation by bringing Tom in (and serving as guinea pig). Rohan is completely confused by this, as he doesn't expect anyone to help him unless they want something or he makes a concerted effort to charm them. Please discuss her reasons. (I won't accuse her of wanting to jump his bones. ;))

It's true that her reasoning had nothing with wanting to jump his bones, because she doesn't. (Although she certainly thinks he's attractive! So you can have that.) There are a few reasons:

  • Lexie feels fiercely about the responsibility of the mutant community to help each other. The mundies aren't do anything to help them; they've only got each other. It's why she's made her business here, and it's how she's ended up with a lot of favors throughout the neighborhood.
  • She has an overactive sense of empathy. The fact that he was struggling and she had a way to help made it very likely that -- she would help.
  • She actually -- kind of likes Rohan? Not like that, but she enjoys his company when he's not like being super emo about loving her bestie.
  • Helping Rohan also meant getting her brother to visit, which was a fringe benefit for her. Until he started being a jerk. It's funny how you can forget that about your family.
  • I don't know that she'd categorize the whole thing as "great lengths." He probably sees her help as a lot bigger than she did.
